Tigers coach Dabo Swinney told Fox Sports that Stoudt will replace Tajh Boyd when the regular season starts and that freshman Deshaun Watson will be his backup.

The race became clearer Monday when Swinney announced that Chad Kelly was dismissed from the team. A dual-threat talent, Kelly was in the running for the starting spot, but an incident with coaches at halftime of Saturday’s spring game and an off-campus incident led to his dismissal.

“It should be pretty obvious that he won the job,” Swinney told Fox Sports. “He’s a great leader who is highly respected by his teammates. He never once complained. He was always ready when we needed him. He’s earned it and he will be named the starter.”

Swinney said the news will become official when he addresses the team Monday.

Stoudt threw two touchdown passes in Saturday’s spring game, completing 15 of 23 passes for 158 yards and no interceptions. Watson did not play in the game because he broke his collarbone and is expected to be sidelined several more weeks.

Last season Stoudt completed 47 of 59 passes in eight games for 415 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran 14 times for 58 yards and a pair of scores.

NCAA FOOD PLAN

Division I student-athletes with full scholarships already have a meal plan that may or may not be enough for some athletes.

On Tuesday, the NCAA made sure that their nutritional needs will be completely met.

The Legislative Council decided that Division I student-athletes on scholarship as well as walk-ons can receive unlimited meals and snacks.

“Today we took action to provide meals to student-athletes incidental to participation,” said council chair Mary Mulveena. “I think the end result is right where it needs to be.”

The topic made headlines during the NCAA Tournament when Connecticut senior guard Shabazz Napier talked about having hungry nights.

“We’re definitely blessed to get scholarships to our universities, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t cover everything,” Napier told reporters. “We do have hungry nights when we don’t have enough money to get food and sometimes money is needed.”

The Division I Board of Directors meets April 24 and the move is expected to be finalized.

BIG TEN SCHEDULING

When Ohio State hosts Illinois in football this season, fans might want to bring a blanket and gloves. It will be the Buckeyes' first November night game.

ABC/ESPN released its schedule of night games Tuesday, and the Buckeyes will host Illinois on Nov. 1 at 8 p.m.

Ohio State will also open under the lights in its home opener, against Virginia Tech on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. The Buckeyes will also play at Penn State on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m.

The only other Ohio State start time that is known is the Aug. 30 opener against Navy at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium, which will begin at noon.

The Big Ten Network will announce its slate of night games on April 22.

Also, Nebraska's football games against Miami and Michigan State will be televised in prime time on the ESPN family of networks.

The Big Ten and ESPN announced Tuesday that the Cornhuskers' game against Miami in Lincoln on Sept. 20 is set for a 7 p.m. Central kickoff. The Oct. 4 game at Michigan State also will start at 7 p.m. Central.

The games will be televised by ABC, ESPN or ESPN2, with a determination on the network to be made later.

AUBURN COMMITMENT

After the way the 2013 season played out, it’s only fitting that one of the top offensive players in the country was deciding between national champion Florida State, runner-up Auburn and Alabama.

On Tuesday at his high school, running back Kerryon Johnson chose Auburn.

The 6-foot, 200-pound back from Madison Academy is rated the No. 46 overall player in the class of 2014 by 247Sports.com, No. 50 by Rivals.com and 26th by ESPN.com.
