The viral clip posted by @theeggcarrton shows a dog really is a man’s best friend as the canine looks ecstatic to be reunited with his buddy.

The video has been viewed 4.3 million times and racked up over 906,000 likes since it was posted on November 24.

The caption says: “Doggo is so happy to have his human home” from college for the national holiday.

It is clear the dog is over the moon to see his favorite person in the household. The college student can be seen sitting at the table surrounded by food but the dog is only concerned about cuddling him.

According to a Charlotte-based pet-sitting company, “dogs are likely to choose a favorite person based on a number of factors. Some of these include the person’s demeanor, interactions with the dog, and how well the person helps meet their basic needs.”

Little Friends Pet Sitting & Dog Walking says dogs begin to determine their favorite person at six months. Some people may use treats and rewards to create a special bond with their pets “but the best way to build a healthy relationship with your dog is through play”.

A game of catch or tug of war are fun activities with your pet that can help build a strong connection.

A dog is looking for a best friend and the requirements for this role are simple, the dog sitter’s website says. “Quality time and the amount of time spent together” is another factor that might get you in a canine’s good books.

Over 2,260 people have commented, at the time of writing, and many are blown away by the dog’s facial expressions.

The top comment, which has received more than 29,600 likes, said: “He said thank you for visiting ME.”

“Doggie to human: COLLEGE DONT HUG YOU THE WAY I DO!” wrote another.

Over 7,000 people liked this comment: “Doggo is like forget college. Stay with me furever.”

“He’s smiling!!!!” said another.

Another TikToker wrote: “That kid better hold that dog until he’s ready to get down! He needs the loving!!”

One user pointed out the following: “aww I love that he doesn’t even care about the food on the table he’s just happy to see you.”

This isn’t the first time Newsweek shared an article about a dog hugging his owner, previously we shared an article about a dog who hugged her owner every time they left the house.
