While the fact that The Forest coming to PlayStation 4 should be exciting enough for fans of the survival-horror genre, Endnight Games has promised that the console iteration will also be receiving content not originally found on the PC version at launch. According to Endnight Games’ Anna Terekhova, players can pair up as four fathers and work together to not only survive, but also find each other’s missing children.
For those unaware of The Forest and its premise, a father and son’s plane crash lands upon a wooded peninsula, and players take on the role of the dad to stay alive in the wilderness while trying to find his missing son. Surviving the elements is already difficult enough, but Endnight has populated the game’s environments with peculiar, primitive tribes that stalk and hunt players like prey, with tribe members opting to either creepily observe players from hiding places or outright provoke them.
Without a doubt, survival games have evolved in myriad ways since their inception, and The Forest is yet another example of developers attempting to bring new ideas to the concept by adding its own unique twists to the kind of gameplay one might expect from the genre. So, for those PS4 fans wondering whether or not to give The Forest a go at launch, it’s worth noting that the PC version received a good deal of critical acclaim at launch on the platform.
The Forest is available now on PC, and is set to launch on November 6, 2018 for PlayStation 4.
