According to the Japanese Twitter account for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the title’s next Spirit Board event will take place between January 4 and January 7, 2019, and it will feature Spirits from titles that made appearances on the NES and Famicom Disk System. It hasn’t been announced as to whether or not there will be any event-exclusive Spirits yet, but as indicated by an image released by Nintendo, the likes of Excitebike, Kid Dracula, Sukapon from Joy Mech Fight, Stanley from Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong & Lady from Donkey Kong, Balloon Fighter, and more will be included.
For those unaware, the forthcoming NES-themed Spirit Board event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to follow a recent Mario-themed Spirit event that featured myriad characters from the games starring the iconic plumber. While not every figure from the Mario titles were represented, it ran the gamut of the franchise, with the likes of Boo, Chain Chomp, Koopa Troopa, Pauline, Toad, Waluigi, and more making an appearance. It also included the event-exclusive Spirits such as the Novice Dice Block and the Advanced River Survival from Mario Party, and the Ace Golden Dash Mushroom from Mario Kart.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see what–or if–Spirits are chosen as exclusives for the impending NES-themed Spirit Board event, as the classic console has a wide range of IPs and characters from which to choose. The addition of Spirits has brought a whole new level of player collection to the Super Smash Bros. franchise in Ultimate, and this next event will likely serve as a solid diversion to keep fans busy until Nintendo starts to release the game’s Challenger Packs as DLC.
