As announced by Nintendo at E3 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be available on December 7, 2018 for the Nitnendo Switch. The game will launch with the largest roster in Super Smash Bros. history, bringing back every character that has appeared in every previous game, while also introducing some new fighters to the fray.

Nintendo previously announced that the Inklings from Splatoon would be joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, but today it confirmed another new fighter in the form of Metroid’s Ridley. Ridley has been a often-requested fighter for the series, and Sakurai’s excuse of the character being “too big” to be in previous games has become a running joke in the community, so it’s nice to see the deadly Space Pirate finally make his debut.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will also be bringing with it some new hardware for fans to get their hands on as well. Nintendo confirmed during its E3 2018 presentation that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will support GameCube controllers, in addition to amiibo. In fact, every character’s corresponding amiibo, including ones representing other game series, will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.

Boasting the largest Super Smash Bros. roster in history, as well as comprehensive GameCube controller and amiibo support, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is shaping up to be this year’s must-have game for the Nintendo Switch. Releasing just in time for the holidays, it will be interesting to see if Ultimate is able to continue the Switch’s sales momentum and help Nintendo reach its ambitious sales goals.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch on December 7, 2018, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
