The Inklings’ full skill-list is yet to be fully detailed, but several of their abilities were shown during the E3 2018 introduction. For example, the Inklings will be able to ink their opponents and then deal extra damage to those who have been inked. As befits the Inklings’ Splatoon origin, they will be able to pick their weapon of choice in order to Splat their foes. And, of course, no Inkling would be prepared without support weapons like the Splat Bomb, either.

The Inklings are just one of several new characters planned to make Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster. Also confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct was Ridley, one of Samus’ greatest foes from the Metroid franchise. Daisy, the Princes of Sarasaland in the Mario Bros. franchise, was also announced. She is an Echo character of Peach, however, and not a completely new roster addition.

Don’t expect too many more roster additions beyond the Inklings and Ridley, however. 65 fighters have already been announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster, bringing together the rosters of all previous Super Smash Bros. games. It must be a massive effort on Bandai Namco and Nintendo’s part, but if it results in the best game in the franchise yet then it’s a small price to pay.

Stay tuned for more information on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the new Inkling fighter in the days to come, as fans across the world get to play for the first time at Nintendo’s booth on the showfloor of E3 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is planned for release later this year exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
