Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Mii Fighters already have a bevy of equipment that can be unlocked by playing the game’s various modes or through the in-game shop, allowing for a wide range of customization. Starting next year, however, Nintendo will be releasing additional Mii Fighter costumes at a price of $0.75 USD a pop. As the gear will likely have no effect on the fighters other than changing their appearance, this seems to be a reasonable price that most gamers are unlikely to feel cheated by.

At this time, there’s no further information on which Mii Fighter costumes will be offered, or exactly when they will release in 2019. Nintendo has already covered the majority of its most iconic properties with Mii Fighter costumes already, but with a large catalog of older games to draw from, there’s plenty that Nintendo could potentially offer. It’s worth noting that the Mii Fighter costumes are being offered separately from the Fighters Pass DLC, so gamers will need to cough up a little extra cash if they want everything the game has to offer. However, the Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass does still include one Mii Fighter costume based upon Xenoblade Chronicle’s Rex.

The news of the Mii Fighter DLC is in keeping with Nintendo’s philosophy regarding its games and the Switch going forward. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently stated that Nintendo needed to produce more DLC for the Switch and as such, would begin offering more post-launch content, in keeping with what other game companies have been doing for years, if not a decade or more. This has already been seen with Splatoon 2’s Octo Expansion, and the Fighter Pass DLC for Smash itself, which is expected to be completed by 2020.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
